Daily Spirits for Iwami – “Iwami Kagura”

At a shrine, a demon appeared—
and I clung tightly to my grandfather in fear.

That’s my very first memory
of encountering Iwami Kagura.

With bright, radiant costumes,
gods and demons danced,
and the shrine itself seemed to shine
in a special way on that one night.

How many decades have passed since then?

Today, the world is more diverse,
and obsessed with efficiency and function.
But the scene I witnessed that night—
the spirit of Iwami Kagura—
still lives on to this day.

I want to pass it on.
Because the root of that feeling
still glows deep within me,
born from that night long ago.

I will become the messenger of Iwami.

神社で鬼が出て、怖くて──
祖父にしがみついた。

それが、記憶にある
はじめての石見神楽との出会いでした。

明るく、煌びやかな衣裳。
神や鬼が舞い、
神社もその夜だけは、特別に輝いていた。

あれから──何十年が経ったのでしょう。

多様化が進み、
機能ばかりが求められる現代でも、
あのとき見た石見神楽の光景は、
今も、しっかりと続いています。

わたしは、これを伝えていきたい。

その想いの根っこは、
あの日の光と、心の奥深くにあります。

石見の伝導者となる！
